Description: Recordings for 1260a bundle began on the afternoon of 20160504, and continued on the following afternoon (20160505) until the questionnaire was complete Bundles 1259a to 1268 contain elicited material. File and bundle names indicate the type of data and persons from whom the data was elicited. BUNDLE NAMES: Bundle names look like: 'hru_1259a_swadesh_anu_all' where hru is ISO code, 1259a is unique bundle number, 'swadesh' is name/type of questionnire; 'anu' is the first 3 or 4 letters of consultant's name. Bundle names with 'all' or 'collated' Bundle names ending with 'all' contain each and every individual file recorded, including mistakes. These run into hundreds of tiny video files. I have not extracted audio from them. This can be done easily after downloading the video files. Bundle names ending with 'collated' contain video files made by collating the above small, individual files. This was done using the software 'Any Video Coverter'. The collated files were further compressed with WinFF software to match ELAR's MP4 requirements. Only the compressed files have been arhived here Files processed through 'Any Video Covnverter' are not compatible with ELAR. FILE NAMES: File names typically look like these: hru_1260c_delu_001 or hru_1260c_delu_collated 'hru' is ISO code for Hrusso Aka; 1260c is the unique bundle number; delu is consultant; and 001 is the question number on the elicitation questionnaire/list. Collated files explained above have their names ending with 'collated'. If you see a file name ending in a small case letters, as in hru_1260c_delu_001a, this means that there is a imistake in this recording. These can be usually ignored, but they are preserved here anyway, since mistakes can at times provide insights. Details of file and bundle names are explained in the document 'hru_dsouza_0417_file_naming'. MIRROR TECHNIQUE: A miror is used in order to capture the side view of speaker's mouth in most of these elicited material (See Ladefoged, 2003, Phonetic Data Analysis, Chapter 2). The technique is gradually fine-tuned throuh the recordings. The best results are obtained after bundle no. hru_1261. We have used this technique for all the material elicited here, even when the data collected is not priarily for phonetic analysis, being mindful of the fact that data elicited for syntax can be of use in other areas of study as well. RECORDING EQUIPMENT AND CONSULTANTS In the matadata photos one observes that the recoding room is full of lights, wires, tripods and cameras. Would such arrangements negatively affect a consultant's' comfort level and make them nervous? One would have to play it by ear. In our recordigs, the consultants were well-known to me and were familiar with the equipment. Two of them had helped in setting up equipment for many other recording sessions. It was observed that the setting here did not adversely affect their confidence and comfort levels. They were in fact encouraged by the fact that the arrangement helped in getting clear videos. SOUND FILES: Sound files .wav in the bundles that bear'collated' label were extracted using 'Any Video Coverter' software from high resolution MP4 files soon after collating them. It should be noted that for any analysis these are the sound files to be used as the starting point. One may compress or resample them as required. This is because, during video compression there is considerable change eg: automatic normalisation and/or loss of audio signal, which, upon further processing, may deteriorate considerably. RECORDING CONDITIONS FOR Bundle 1259a Video: Redorded with Canon XA20, settings - Auto. Audio: Fairly quiet village surroundings in Nima Jebisow's bamboo kitchen.Minimal or no echo because of bamboo walls. Micropones: Audio Technica 803B lavalier microphones - 2, one for each stereo channel, both attached to speaker's collar. Audio recorded directly on Canon XA20 video camera using XLR inputs and extracted later using Any Video Coverter software. Recording Specs: Sample rate 48000 Hz, 32 bit float. RECORDING CONDITIONS FOR Bundles 1259b to 1262 q. no. 106, and 1266: Recording site: In a somewhat echoey room at Assisi Bhavan, Buragaon. Fairly quiet village surroundings. A somewhat empty, echoey rooom was not an ideal place, but this was the best in terms of minimaum background noise, equipment set up, good light and uninterrupted availability. Initial recordings were done with Audio Technica 803B lavalier microphones, but later AKG 520 microphone was used to minimise echo effect. See details below. Recording Specs: Mono, split into 2 channels by the video camera, Sample rate 48000 Hz, 32 bit float. QUESTIONNAIRES: Inside each bundle a pdf of the corresponding quesionnire is given. They DO NOT provide exact translatons, but were used during elicitation as cues. Correct translations should be obtained from ELAN files when they are available. A WORD OF CAUTION As usual, elicited lists are prone to list intonation, direct translation and artificial data. They must be used sparingly, and with caution!"

Daughter of Nima and Kejang Jebisow, and is married to an Apatani ('Chandu' Mihin Chada). The couple is temporarily residing in Buragaon for business. In the first year of recording, she ran a shop. She is fluent in Hrusso Aka and a very good public speaker. She takes an active role in women's self-help groups coordinated by UFS nuns and AJS at Buragaon, and has recently become the co-ordinator of the self-help goups of East and West Kameng Districts. Also know as 'Tranje'. A member of the Aka (Hrusso) Literature Team, formed in 2017, under the leadership of Vijay D'Souza. Original village: Buragaon

Born in Karnataka, India. Working in Northeast India as a Jesuit since 1999. Involved with Hrusso Aka orthography development and language support since 1999, having learned the language at Palizi while teaching. Currently doing a DPhil (PhD) in linguistics at the University of Oxford, UK (Thesis: A Grammar of Hrusso Aka). Founder and leader of the Hrusso Literature Team, formed in 2017.
