Description:Dirk tells the story of Isosavuni, a Yaur goddess. He tells it three times: in Yaur, Waropen, and Malay. The summary is as follows (based on the Malay): Isosavuni and her husband are at Tanjung Mangguar. He climbs a mango tree to cut down the ripe fruits, one of which strikes her on the arm and breaks her bracelet (a traditional item; Malay "paseda"). She cries at the loss of the bracelet, perhaps remembering who gave it to her. Her husband climbs down at once and cries with her. Isosavuni sits on a rock shaped like a house (where today there is a spring called "Isosavuni's tears"). Suddenly she notices that her husband has disappeared. She fills a bamboo tube with water and goes off to search for him by sea, stopping at the islands of Anggra Mios, Kumbur, Nene, Babi/Wairesi, Mowirin, and finally Moor. She goes to a location on Moor called Ari (which has red sand just like Tanjung Mangguar). She tries to drink the water from the bamboo, but during the journey it mixed with seawater, so she pours it out (the reason Moor's water today is salty on the south side). Still not finding her husband, she continues to Ratewi and then Nusariwi. She asks Amaponi, goddess of Nusariwi, if she has seen her husband, but she has not. She continues to Indurei and Imbaraseni, crosses the Mosairo river, climbs the mountain Moduvi, goes down to Tanjung Viai, crosses all the way back to Tanjung Mangguar, continues to Teluk Umar, passes the mountain Wondiboi, and finally reaches Teluk Wondoma.
Dirk is from the village of Sima. He is a native speaker of Yaur and Waropen, has near-native fluency in Moor, basic proficiency in Yerisiam, and learned Dutch as a young man. He is an important local figure in traditional law (adat) in Nabire.
