Description:Herman first explains that he is making this recording in order to document and preserve the Yerisiam language for future generations. Then, prompted by Frengki, he tells the history of the land that was later settled and became Nabire. He talks about relations and conflicts between the Yerisiam and Wate (Tarunggare), and the conversion to Christianity. He says that the Yerisiam are the true claimants to the land around Nabire.
Herman is from the village of Erega in the Yamor Lakes. He has great knowledge of custom and tradition and has traveled widely. He natively speaks Yerisiam, Yamor Lakes Kamoro, and Papuan Malay. He also speaks some Ekagi is familiar with the vocabulary and basic grammar of Mairasi, Miere, various other languages.
Frengki's family is not from Sima, but he grew up there and learned both Yerisiam and Yaur.
