Title:Jebyego describing the process of kipkaa

Coverage:Kenya

Description:In this video, Jebyego narrates her experiences of the Terik female initiation process. Although the practice is no longer the norm in the community, we found it significant for historical purposes since the girls initiated at the same time as the boys were selected their suitors directly from the group of male initiates because immediate marriage was mandatory after initiation unlike in the current practice where there are no readily available wives for the male initiates to pair up with.
