| Description: | This recording consists of two little anecdotes. The first one tells how Anna Nadeina and a group of women got lost while going to pick wild garlic (ramson). The second one tells how Anna Nadeina and a friend encountered a hobo while picking berries. Recorded in January 2008 by Elena Kalinina and Nina Sumbatova in Vladimirovka. At times there is the sound of some machine whirring (probably the old fridge, or perhaps a sewing machine, or the water pump), and there’s also a lot of rustling and coming and going at the beginning and the end. In the beginning Daria Nadeina and Galina Kandakova say something, and in between Elena Kalinina admonishes Anna Nadeina to speak in Negidal; at the end the linguists can be heard saying that Svetlana (Toldova) has come. All of these additional voices were transcribed in one tier ‘other’. Transcribed by Brigitte Pakendorf and Galina Kandakova in August 2017, with Galina Kandakova providing the Russian translation. | This project focuses on the documentation of Negidal, a highly moribund Northern Tungusic language spoken by at most a handful of individuals on the Amgun’ and Lower Amur rivers in the Russian Federation. The language comprises two dialects, Upper and Lower Negidal, of which the latter might already be extinct. The project will result primarily in an extensive corpus of interlinearized texts from the Upper dialect together with accompanying audio recordings. | ||

| Anna P. Nadeina was born in October 1916. Her father was a Negidal, her mother, who died when she was six, a Nanai. She has only minimal education ("likbez", literacy school), and worked in the village bakery, as a cleaner in the school, and in the kindergarten laundry.She is the mother of Daria and Tamara Nadeina, Galina Kandakova, and Ljubov' Oxlopkova. | ||
