| Description: | This is a longer and more detailed version of the narrative archived under the title "Don't run away from bears", in which Galina Kandakova tells how she and some friends met a bear while picking berries in a place called Tatarskoe ozero (Tatar Lake). In between there is the sound of some machine whirring (probably the old fridge - the session was recorded in the kitchen); also, Daria Nadeina interrupts the story fairly early on to ask whether they had gone to pick cranberries. Recorded by Elena Kalinina, Nina Sumbatova and Svetlana Toldova. Transcribed by Brigitte Pakendorf and transcription checked with Galina Kandakova in July 2017, who also provided the Russian translation. | This project focuses on the documentation of Negidal, a highly moribund Northern Tungusic language spoken by at most a handful of individuals on the Amgun’ and Lower Amur rivers in the Russian Federation. The language comprises two dialects, Upper and Lower Negidal, of which the latter might already be extinct. The project will result primarily in an extensive corpus of interlinearized texts from the Upper dialect together with accompanying audio recordings. | ||
