| Description: | This is the tale of two brothers, the elder of whom takes a fairy-like woman for a wife, who escapes after duping the younger brother into bringing her her wings. The elder brother then sets off to find her and has to overcome several obstacles to get her back. The names of the brothers are Savkan, which means "all-knowing" and Kusunkuma, which means "very strong person". This is most probably a fairy tale from some other ethnic group that was translated into Negidal by Daria Nadeina's deceased sister Tamara, which DIN then read. Recorded in 2007 by Elena Kalinina and Olga Biriouk. A first transcription and translation into Russian were done in Word by members of the Kalinina team. The text was retranscribed and time-aligned in ELAN by Brigitte Pakendorf, and the transcription was checked and a more accurate Russian translation, where necessary, was provided by Daria Nadeina in March 2017. | This project focuses on the documentation of Negidal, a highly moribund Northern Tungusic language spoken by at most a handful of individuals on the Amgun’ and Lower Amur rivers in the Russian Federation. The language comprises two dialects, Upper and Lower Negidal, of which the latter might already be extinct. The project will result primarily in an extensive corpus of interlinearized texts from the Upper dialect together with accompanying audio recordings. | ||
