| Description: | In this narrative, Galina Kandakova tells how her son, his wife Zhanna, and a fried went to pick berries. Fooling around with a hose pipe, Zhanna called into it and was answered by an elk in heat. this gave the son the idea that they might call another elk in the evening, when he would have fetched his gun. However, Zhanna and the friend became afraid when they heard the elk running towards them, started talking with each other, and thus scared the elk away. Recorded in 2010 by Elena Kalinina and Nina Sumbatova, with a first transcription and translation done by the team of Elena Kalinina. Time-aligned and retranscribed in ELAN by Brigitte Pakendorf, translated by Galina Kandakova, and transcription checked and questions clarified with her. | This project focuses on the documentation of Negidal, a highly moribund Northern Tungusic language spoken by at most a handful of individuals on the Amgun’ and Lower Amur rivers in the Russian Federation. The language comprises two dialects, Upper and Lower Negidal, of which the latter might already be extinct. The project will result primarily in an extensive corpus of interlinearized texts from the Upper dialect together with accompanying audio recordings. | ||
