Description:This is an untranscribed and untranslated recording of Sawaka telling the myth of Lake Campbell. This story is only available to ethnic Eibela with a land rights claim to Lake Campbell.
This project consists in the documentation of Eibela, also called Aimele (ISO-639 AIL), as part of a PhD project at James Cook University which will ultimately result in a grammar of the language along with a dictionary and a corpus of texts. Eibela is a severely endangered language with 300 speakers in Lake Campbell, Western Province in Papua New Guinea.
This is an untranscribed and untranslated recording of Sawaka telling the myth of Lake Campbell.
Sawaka is an Eibela man living in Wawoi Falls and Lake Campbell. Grant Aiton is a PhD researcher recording the story in order to research the Eibela language.
