Session 44

Contributor:Alex Garcia

Contributor (speaker):Ate Carmelita
Coverage:Philippines
Date:2014-07-10
Description:Carmelita explains that she was raised by her aunt’s family (Elena Maximino, ‘the bulldozer’). By living with that family she met her husband with whom she had many children. She says she does not speak the language with her husband, (only Tagalog), and this is why the language is disappearing. She also explains how they were ashamed to be Alta in the past and how they would never have contact with Tagalog people. Later she had contact with them because she married an Ilokano.
