| Description: | This session contains p035 from Guinea-Bissau telling the story of her sickness, how it came about, who caused it, and what she did to treat it. The sickness that came to my mind when I witnessed it was narcolepsy. The session came about, because the lady came to me due to her leg wound that she had suffered during an acute episode of her sickness and she had fallen into the fire. She wanted to know, if I had any medicaments for it. She had already been to the doctor for treatment and most of the wound was already healed, although her leg was still swollen a little. She had finished her medication and wanted new one. While she was sitting there waiting for me to get my first aid kit out of the room and collecting the necessary things, she told all the people sitting there the whole story of her sickness. I thought that it would make for a good audio-visual session talking about her own personal perception of the sickness and how she explains it. So I asked her a day later, if she would be willing to tell me the story and I record it with video. She was willing. However, during the telling of the story, she had a fit and the session was interrupted for considerable amount of time, the time it took her to recover. Once she recovered she wanted to finish telling the story but she asked me not to archive the section with the fit. So the two parts of this session contain the telling up to the fit and the denoument after the fit, once she was ready again. Nothing in-between. Note that I made the mistake of letting p002 sit a little bit too far to the right of the camera and the speaker addressed him during her narrative. So her gaze always wanders out of the frame. | |
