Title:SD1-168
Bibliographic Citation:Ratu, Hilarius, Danerek, H. Stefan, Danerek, H. Stefan, Danerek, H. Stefan, Johannis Ware; 2015-09-21; Genre: Medicine/huru. Johannis Ware, or Ware Kulane, is a grandfather from kampong Lei. I had told Ware that I would come over the following day in the afternoon. I came with the hope of recording stories, he knows fables (see also Nggeno, his daughter) and some myths, and at least one 'huru' (prohibition)/curse, namely 'huru tithi', which is the symptom caused by breaking the prohibition. It is cured with chewing areca nut and piper betel (with lime, 'ngiru huru'), mixed with with long grass ('ci'i') and paddy grains. The chew is placed over the navel, because this is severe stomach ache. Ware also demonstrated how to make the 'huru tithi' sign used to indicate the 'huru' hung in the plantation. Ware's description is more focused on the language used when healing, the 'bhulu wau', which is quite long. When the huru is hung, he only utters a few sentences. Recorded 21 Sept 2015 in the late afternoon with the H4N, sitting outside of his house. Ware had prepared some materials to show how the prohibition is made. His daughter was also present. Picture of small box/roll to place on te navel..; digital wav file recorded at 48 khz/16 bit, eaf file, photo jpeg file; Kaipuleohone University of Hawai'i Digital Language Archive;http://hdl.handle.net/10125/47742.
