Title:SD1-086
Bibliographic Citation:Danerek, H. Stefan, Danerek, H. Stefan, Danerek, H. Stefan, Sophune, Pidu; 2015-07-08; Genre: Fairy tale. Title: Dita Wéa no'o Koli lo'i (Dita wea and Koli lo'i). Pitu (Ebbe, b. 1979), Bau wolo, Mata mere, tells a fairy story he learned from his grandmother. It is similar with the tales told by Kanda Sera (Doto no'o Walo, or, Pu Pu), Ngei du'a (Pu Pu, and Lengu Nande (La'u Du'a). The tale is about two sibling orphans who want to make a living. They meet a strange old man with huge ears (in the other tales the ears grow immense), which he uses to keep the two kids, a kidnapping basically. The kids manage to escape and later they ask a tree (Pinang wants to) to go to the heavens. They do and find people there, only women. It is cold and the siblings make a fire (pojo hapi, using bamboo and coconut husk, traditional way) to warm themselves. But the people there do not know fire, they approach it and burn themselves. Pitu's tale is quite long, he spoke it quite slowly, digging into his memory. Recorded by SD in Pitu's home in Bau wolo, Mata mere, morning 8 June -15 with the AT2020 mic. With Mita Meti, Pitu’s daughter. Picture from another recording session. ; digital wav file recorded at 48 khz/24 bit, eaf file, photo jpeg file; Kaipuleohone University of Hawai'i Digital Language Archive;http://hdl.handle.net/10125/38989.
