Description: | Translation (Rita Seng Mai & Keita Kurabe) Now, I will tell the story of "How Cats and Dogs Became Enemies." Once upon a time, a cat and a dog were steaming rice together inside a house. As they were steaming the rice, the cat, wanting to eat the steamed rice, stood by to watch over it. Then, the dog came in and kept taking the embers needed to steam the rice. Each time, the cat would take back the embers the dog had taken and put them back in the hearth. The dog came in again and took the embers once more. The cat, eager to eat the steamed rice, waited impatiently. But because the dog kept taking the embers, the rice was slow to cook, and the cat grew angry. After a long time, just as the rice had finally started to cook a little, the cat took out the rice and began to eat it. At that moment, the dog snatched the rice away and ate it. When the dog took the rice like that, the cat pounced on the dog. Thus, the cat and the dog have remained enemies to this day. When a cat sees a dog, it pounces, and when a dog sees a cat, it bites, and so they have remained enemies until today.
