Description:Translation (Rita Seng Mai) The story I am going to tell is about a golden tiger. Once upon a time, there was a tiger in a deep forest. He was a lazy tiger. And there was a tree growing near the lake. It was bending over the lake. He saw a snake crawling over there. Then he thought to slither like a snake since he was bored. The snake was atop and he was near the stem of the tree. He stuck his abdomen on the trunk of the tree and tried to slither like a snake. He imitated the snake. But he was just a tiger and couldn't pretend like a snake. So, he fell down from the tree right away as soon as he moved forward. He fell into the lake. And he barely could get out of it. He went back to the forest. He went back. Actually, he forgot his appearance, and how his shape and body were. He totally forgot about it. When he got out of the lake, he lay down on the ground to make himself dry because he was wet. After that, he walked back into the forest. On his way, he met a rabbit. The rabbit saw that that tiger was different from other tigers. Other tigers had stripes, but that tiger didn't have any stripes. He was just standing there without running away. He always ran away when he saw the tiger. But this tiger was different. So, he was surprised and gazing there. The tiger walked past near him and patted gently on his head. And the tiger said, "You, such a gentle boy! See you again." When the tiger walked past him, he couldn't reply to the tiger and just kept walking. The rabbit thought to himself, "Ahhh, this tiger is different from the other tigers. He is not the kind of tiger which eats us. He might be the one who helps and rescues us when we face difficulties. He is the saviour for us." He thought. Then he spread the news. He said, "Our saviour has arrived." All the big and small animals heard the news. On the other hand, the tiger walked back to his place. He stayed inside the cave. The fox also heard what the rabbit said. But he didn't believe it. So, he thought, "I don't believe! I will go and check that whether the saviour who looks like a tiger has arrived or not." Then he went to the cave where the tiger lived. He really saw that there was a golden tiger inside the cave. The fox said to the tiger, "Yes! Be the king and I will be your follower. Let's work together!" He said that to the tiger. The fox came up with a plan. He spread the news again since there were some animals which didn't know the news yet. As soon as he spread the news, all animals heard that and they all came to the cave. They gathered in front of the cave. All animals were there. Then the golden tiger said, "I came here to save you from the difficulties. I am the saviour. If you want to be free from those difficulties, you have to offer a sacrifice." The animals asked, "How?" Then the tiger said, "You have to offer one kind of animal as a sacrifice." When the tiger said like that, all the animals didn't want to agree and shouted. The lion which ruled the three mountains heard the shout. On that day, he was finding the prey, but he didn't see any animals. So, he was walking with a surprising thought. When he heard the shouting of the animals, he went there. He saw that there were many animals gathering in front of the cave where the tiger lived. The animals retold him what the tiger said to them. The lion knew immediately how that tiger changed into the golden colour after he heard what the animals said. The lion was angry and said, "You two applied the golden colour on your bodies and tricked the other animals." Then he grabbed the tiger and the fox, and dipped them into the lake. The gold colour on the tiger's body was disappeared when he was dipped into the water. And the fox choked on water when he was dipped into the water by the lion. He barely got out of the water. The tiger could get out of the water and became the original one with stripes. Transcription (Lu Hkawng) Ya ngai bai tsun na maumwi a ga baw gaw ndai ja Sharaw a maumwi re.
