Description:Translation (Rita Seng Mai) Once upon a time, there were two close friends in a village. They worked together. A man was good-natured, and another man was ill-natured. A spiteful man often bullied the good man. One day, they prepared to do business together. They planned to pick the fruits from the village and sell them at the market. And they would buy some salt with the money which they would get after selling fruits. Then, they would sell salt in their village. The ill-natured man said, "I will be the cashier. You sell the fruits at our neighbour's village market and buy some salt. I will sell the salt in our village. And I will keep the money." The good man thought, "My friend is right. It will be great." So, he agreed to do as his friend said. The good man usually went to the neighbour's village market carrying those heavy fruits and sold them there. After that, he bought the salt and carried the heavy salt back to his village. The evil man avoided carrying the heavy salt. He made his kind friend carry it. One day, the good man needed to carry salt that was much heavier than usual. Since he carried the heavy salt all the long way, he could not walk fast. It was getting dark, so he had to sleep under a tree. He was exhausted. Then, he fell asleep just right there. That night, he dreamt a group of older women came towards him. They said, "Hello! We need a cauldron to cook. Can you borrow us?" They also asked him, "Where did you come from? Where do you want to go?" The good-natured man answered politely, "I had sold fruits in the market and bought some salt to sell at my village. And it is my way back home." They requested again, "Can you borrow your cauldron?" The man said, "I don't have any cauldrons to lend you. I have only salt." He had suffered goiter. He had a bump on his neck. A woman pointed at the neck of him and said, "There you have a cauldron. You said you don't have it because you don't want to borrow us, right?" The man said, "If you really want that, you can take it." The women went back to their home. The next morning when the sun arose, he woke up. When he touched his neck, he found out that there was no bump. He was very happy. He went back home happily by carrying the heavy salt. When he arrived home, his bad friend saw him and asked, "Where is the bump on your neck!?" The bad man was curious and asked him, "Can you tell me in detail? I want to lose my bump too." Then, the good-natured man explained everything. The ill-natured man decided to do the same as his friend. So, he took some fruits and went to the neighbour's village market to sell them. Since he took just a few fruits, he got only small amount of money. Then, he bought some salt and went to the place where his good friend took a rest. Carrying the salt was not heavy for him because he bought only a small amount of salt. Then, he reached there early. He was waiting for the night time. At night, he slept under the tree where his friend slept. In his dream, a group of older women came towards him. They asked him, "My friend! Where did you come from? Where do you want to go?" The bad man explained, "I went to sell the fruits at the market. And I have bought some salt to sell in my village. It's on my way back home. But it is already dark when I have arrived here. So, I decide to sleep just right here." They said, "You have a cauldron too. We have an extra cauldron. We will give you that." He was shocked and didn't know what to say. At that time, a woman carried a cauldron and said, "Here! Take it." And she threw it to him. When he woke up in the morning, he quickly touched his neck. He found that there was another bump on his neck. He was very sad and returned home. When he got back home, his good-natured friend asked him, "What happened to you?" He explained everything, "In my dream, a group of older women appeared and said that they had an extra cauldron and wanted to give it to me. When I woke up, I saw this extra bump on my neck." The good man and the neighbours were unhappy about him. The neighbours said, "You are a good and kind man. So, your bump has disappeared. But, your friend always bullies you and wants to defraud you. So, he gets an extra bump." Then, the ill-natured man was embarrassed and depressed. Since that day, he had to spent his life unhappily.
