Description:Translation (Rita Seng Mai) I am going to tell a story which the elders used to tell us when we were young. It is from the bible. It is about a castle that could even touch the sky. They built it to reach heaven. A long time ago, there was only GOD, no human. Before human being exists on this earth, GOD took some dust and created a man. Our Mighty GOD thought that the man would be lonely if he was the only human on this earth. GOD took a rib from the left side of the man and created a woman. After the creation, GOD blessed, "Be fruitful and multiply." As the words of GOD, the population has enormously been increasing. Later, people often did things that GOD didn't like. They didn't listen to GOD and even forgot that he is the creator. But there was a faithful man called Noah. He prayed every day and night. Then, GOD told Noah, "People do not love me anymore. They don't follow my rules. But, you listen to my words and obey me. Build an ark on the hill." Noah listened to GOD and started building the ark. At that time, people said, "Noah is going crazy. He is building a ship on the hill!" Noah replied, "There will be heavy rain for forty days, and everything will be under the water." But, they didn't believe him and kept doing terrible things like lying and fighting each other. GOD instructed Noah on how many rooms there should be in detail. Noah put all the animals in his ark. Noah also called everyone to enter the ark. He said, "There will be a flood very soon. Come to the ark!" But, people refused to come and said that Noah was going crazy. Noah, his wife, his three sons and their three wives came into the ark. His family (in total, eight people) and all the animals came into the ark. Since GOD ordered them to go into the ark, they listened to GOD, and all went into the ark. After they entered the ark, there was heavy rain for the whole forty days. The rain fell from the sky, and the water leaked out from the ground as well. The entire land was filled with water. The ark raised up and up. The left animals and people died because of the flood. Only Noah's eight family members and the animals on the ark escaped from the disaster. The land was under the water for 150 days. After many days, Noah thought, "It's already many days after heavy rain. Does the water level decrease?" So, he opened the window and sent forth a ravine to find the land. But, it never came back to him. Then, he sent forth a dove again. It found no land to set her feet. After few days, it came back to the ark by taking an olive leaf in its feet. Noah put out his hand and brought the dove into the ark with him. A few days later, Noah sent forth the dove again. But this time, it didn't come back to the ark. Then, Noah knew that the water had subsided. So, they disembarked at Majoi Shingra Mountain. They lived there, and the population had been increasing. They wondered because most people were dead, but there were still lots and lots. One day, they decided, "The Mighty GOD who created us is in heaven. Let's build a castle to reach him!" They were building it so hard. GOD broke that castle many times, but people never depressed and kept building. GOD knew that if people were united, it was impossible to separate them. So, he made people speak different languages. People who spoke the same languages were in the same ethnic groups. Then, there are Jinghpaw, Japanese, English, American, Indian, etc. Our elders used to tell us about this. Later, when I read the Holy Bible, I see that those things actually happened. When I pray by reading the bible, I feel like I can see those events in my eyes. Transcription (Lu Awng) Ya na gaw moi anhte ma rai yang salang ni sara ni hkai ya ai.
