Description:Translation (Rita Seng Mai) Once upon a time, there was a tortoise in a forest. He didn't enjoy his life. He didn't like himself. He thought, "I have a heavy body. I don't want it! I want to live like the other animals." When he looked at the frogs, they were fast and light. He was jealous of them. When he looked at the squirrel, he envied it because it could climb a tree. So, he didn't satisfy with his body. Then, he went outside straight ahead. He met a boar on his way and asked, "I don't really like my shell. It would be great for me without having a shell. Don't you want to take my shell?" The boar said, "I can't. Go ask other animals too." So, he went to a fox and said, "Don't you want to help me take off my shell on my back? But I can't believe you because other animals said you are sly." The fox said, "Don't worry about it. I can't eat you. If I eat tortoise meat, I feel very itchy. But I can help you remove your shell. Just tell me the way how to do it." The tortoise said, "It's okay. You can do as you want." Then, the fox said, "I'll hit your shell with a stone." The tortoise said, "No. I will get hurt. I just want to remove it without getting hurt." The fox said, "Then, you should go to the rabbit. He knows how to do well." Then, the tortoise went to the rabbit. He said to the rabbit, "I want to remove my shell." The rabbit asked, "Why do you want to remove it?" He replied, "I want to move like other animals, fast and light." The rabbit said, "This is your nature. Don't try to take it off." But he said, "No. I want to remove it no matter what." The rabbit said, "Then, go to that mountain which is a bit far from here. There is a man who has superpower. Go there and ask for help from him." So, the tortoise started his journey to that man. He had to go past many high mountains to reach there. After some days, he arrived at the man. The man was actually a hermit. The tortoise said, "I want to remove my shell." The hermit asked him, "Why do you want to remove it?" The tortoise said, "I want to live like other animals and move fast." The hermit said, "Okay, fine. I can take your shell off." Then, he removed the shell on the tortoise's body. He was so happy after taking the shell off. Then, he went back. On his way back home, he faced many difficulties. He was pricked with thorns. He couldn't sleep well since he couldn't hide in his shell. He couldn't rest well because there were many thorns everywhere. He was covered with blood. At that time, a tiger got the smell of blood and said, "I'll get something to eat now." But, when it saw the tortoise, it was surprised because it had never seen that kind of animal before. The tortoise appearance had changed. He got a long neck, long body and short legs. So, the tiger just walked past him without eating him. The tortoise thought, "I should go through the water, not from land." Then, it dove into the water. Fish was surprised and said, "What kind of animal is that? May be, this animal will eat us." They were scared. The tortoise said, "Don't be afraid of me. I am a tortoise." Fish said, "No way! Your neck and mouth are long. You have short legs and big eyes. You can't be a tortoise. You are going to eat us." They chased after him and bit him. He got really hurt and regretted his action. So, he went back to the hermit to ask his shell back. On his way, he faced lots of difficulties, and his whole body was covered with blood. When he met the hermit, he said, "Can you give my shell back? I know how much useful it is for me. It's really precious." The hermit said, "I know you will come back. So, I didn't go anywhere and am just waiting for you here. If you want it back, you can take it." The tortoise got his shell back and lived happily forever. Transcription (Lu Awng) Tinang a prat hpe nra sharawng ai taukawk, moi shawng de da taukawk langai nga ai da.
