Description:Translation (Rita Seng Mai) I am going to tell you about a tasty soup. Once in a village, there was a stingy woman. She always went to the house where there was a praying ceremony and ate there. She not only ate there, but also took some food home. The villagers were curious about how she was surviving, so one villager went to her house as a guest. He told her, "Grandma, can I sleep here for a night?" She told him, "You can sleep here, but I can't feed you anything." After a while, the boy told her, "I want to drink some water." Then, she gave him a cup of water. Later, he told her, "I am hungry. I want to eat food." She said, "No, I don't have any food." He told her, "I saw some food above the fireplace. Can you give me that food?" She thought, "If I don't give him some food, he might think that I am too stingy. I think I should give some." Then, she put some fried rice on a small plate and gave it to him. In fact, the rice was already hard. The rice looked dried out, so the boy thought, "The rice is really hard. I can't eat it. I need some soup to eat. I will ask her about soup." Then, he asked her, "Grandma, can I have some soup?" The grandma said, "No, I don't cook any soup. I don't have it." He told her, "Grandma, I will teach you how to cook soup." She asked him, "How to cook it?" He told her, "Let's cook some stone soup." Then, she thought, "It might not cost anything if that is only stone soup." So, she agreed, "Okay. Let's cook it." He told her, "Grandma, go pick one stone and make it soft." She just picked up one stone and started cooking soup. After cooking for some time, he tasted a spoon of soup and said, "It's really delicious." When the old lady tasted it, it was really bland and not tasty at all. She said, "No, it's not delicious." Then, he said, "Oh, really? Then, why don't you add some salt there?" So, she took some salt and added it to the soup. After some time, the boy tasted the soup again and said, "It's delicious now." Then, the lady tasted it again too. She said, "No, it's not good." Then, he told her, "You have some garlic and onion, don't you? Put some into the soup." She was stingy, so she added only one or two onions to the soup. The boy tasted it again and said, "It's tasty." But the lady said, "No, not at all." Then, he said, "Shall we add some peas to make it tastier?" He asked for some peas and added them to it. After the peas were soft, he tasted the soup and said, "It's delicious now." The lady tasted it and found it tasty. She said, "It's a little bit good." Then, he told her, "Shall we make it more delicious?" She was thinking, "What should I add more to be delicious? I will eat lots of rice with that soup today." Then, she asked him, "What shall we add?" He replied, "I saw some meat when you opened your pantry earlier. Let's add it." She added just a little piece of meat to the soup. Then, the soup became really delicious. The boy drank a lot of soup and ate lots of rice. The lady was a bit angry because she needed to use her ingredients. On the other hand, the boy ate lots of rice and continued his journey happily.
