Description:Translation (Htoi Awng) There is a Kachin proverb. And the story I am going to tell is 'the one who had the bad luck suddenly gained the good luck.' Long time ago, there was lazy man in a village. He was addicted to the opium. He was very lazy. So, his parents and the relatives didn't like him. One day, his parents prepared the foods and everything their lazy son might need. And they drive him out from the house to the forest. The lazy man entered into the deep forest. He kept walking and reached at a cave. It was already dark when he arrived there. So, he decided to sleep there. Before he slept, he used drugs. And he made tea to drink too. At that time, Sanam Num (a nat which has human appearance, long hair and terrible face) who was living in that cave came back. When she got inside it, the lazy man was using drugs and drinking tea. She thought that the man was eating some coals. She saw him doing that. She said, "Oh, lord of the fire! Move out of my place! Go back to your place, please." The lazy man replied, "No! I won't! What will you give me if I move out?" Sanam Num said, "I will give anything you want. Just move out, please." He told her, "I can't move anywhere if you do not give me right now." She said, "I will give you now." Then, she filled the basket with coins of gold. She gave him a mule to ride on and let him go back to his place. He went back to his home by mule. He sold the gold coins which Sanam Num gave him. His parents and relatives warmly welcomed him. They lived happily forever. We, Kachin people, say that kind of people is "N-gam galeng hkrup ai wa gaw nda lam hkrup ai." (means the one who has the bad luck suddenly gain the good luck.)
