Description:Translation (Rita Seng Mai) In the past, there was a time when GOD created the flood to cleanse the humans' sins. There lived a widow and her two children in a village. The widow thought, "There will be a flood on this earth. I have lived my life on this earth for a long time. It's fine for me, although I die. My children are still young. They need to live and learn life." So, she made a short drum that would fit her two children. The widow let her two children stay in the drum when the flood came. She was dead when the water swept her away. When the water was low, they came out of the drum. The elder sister said, "Our mom is dead. We don't have anyone to rely on. Let's find a place to live." Then, they walked to search for a place. They found something like a hut in the field. They saw smoke was going up. The elder sister told her younger sister, "There is the smoke going up to the sky. Seem like it is a house. Let's go there." Then, they went there. There was a ghoul in that hut. The two sisters didn't know he was a ghoul. When the ghoul saw them, he said, "Today is such a lucky day! I have got meat to eat." He welcomed them happily. The two children thought, "This grandpa welcomes us warmly. We can live here with him." On the other hand, the ghoul thought, "I feel so lucky today. I can eat meat today." The ghoul let them rest. After a few hours, the girls noticed something was not right. So, they discussed running away. They discussed, "What shall we do to escape from the ghoul?" They got an idea and told the ghoul, "Grandpa, we are so thirsty since we walked a long way. Can you give us some water?" The ghoul said, "Of course. Let me go get some water for you." Actually, they secretly punched a hole in the bamboo-segment that was used in carrying water. The ghoul took that bamboo segment and went to the stream to get some water for the girls. The two sisters ran away at that time. While the ghoul was trying to carry the water, the dragonfly flew out of the bamboo-segment. No matter how many times he tried to carry the water, the water was not filled. It kept dripping through the hole. He wondered, "Why the water is not full yet? What will be happening to my meat now?" He found out the bamboo-segment had a hole. He was angry and shouted, "It's because of a dragonfly! It went through the segment. So, my segment has a hole. I will kill it!" He chased it. He reached home as he was chasing the dragonfly. When he was home, he found no one. He said, "Oh, my meat is gone. Since I went out to get some water, my meal has been gone. I have to find them." He followed the footsteps of the two sisters. He reached a place where a good nat lived. The two sisters arrived there too. They told the good nat, "Please, help us. When we were finding a place for us, we met a ghoul. The ghoul is trying to eat us. So, we are running away from him. Help us, please. Save us." When the ghoul arrived there, he asked the old nat, "Did you see two girls passing here?" The ghoul asked for his permission and sat in the living room. Just before the ghoul arrived, the nat let the two girls hide in his house. He told them to hide at a rack placed above a fireplace. The two girls were frightened out of their wits. They thought, "We are going to die this time. The ghoul will see us and eat us." They were sobbing since they were scared. The tear just dropped right beside the ghoul. When the ghoul heard the sound of dripping water, he was curious, "What is that?" Then, he tried to taste it. It was salty. The ghoul asked the nat, "Grandpa, what is that? Are you making something tasty? A liquid was dripped, so I tasted it. It was so delicious." The nat said, "Yes, I have made something delicious." Then, the ghoul asked him, "Can you share me some, please?" The old nat said, "You can't eat it yet. You have to wait seven days if you want to eat it. Come back here at that time." Then, the ghoul went back to his place without searching for the two girls. The nat told the ghoul to come back after seven days. During those seven days, the old nat fired iron awls. He was boiling the water and waiting for the ghoul coming back. On the seventh day, the ghoul came back again and said to the nat, "Since you told me to come back here on the seventh day, I come here. You told me that I could eat that delicious food you had made. Give me some." The nat said, "Of course. I will treat you some tasty meal. But you can't go inside the house. You have to wait at the stairs while closing your eyes and opening your mouth wide." Then, the nat poured the hot boiling water and put those hot iron awls into the ghoul's mouth. The ghoul was in pain and shouted, "Akalaw!" (Akalaw is like 'oh my god'.) He was much in pain and asked the nat, "Where should I go now?" The nat said, "You have to go to a deep valley. Since today, you have to live there forever." The ghoul went to the deep valley as the nat directed him. He shouted loudly and screamed because he felt pain. Since then, there were nats that stayed in the jungle. Since then, the nats that lived in the jungle have existed. This is the end of the story.
