Description:Translation (Rita Seng Mai) The story I am going to tell you is about a girl who always helped other people. Once upon a time, there were an old grandmother and her two granddaughters in a village. They lived on the outskirts. One day, when the old grandmother went to the market to buy some food for them, she told her granddaughters, "I will go to the market. Don't open the door for anyone until I come back. Don't go outside. Alright?" Her two granddaughters said, "Okay, we won't." Then, she went to the market alone. The two sisters were playing in the compound the whole day without going outside. At that moment, the elder sister was thirsty and went inside the house to drink some water. Unfortunately, her younger sister was grabbed by an eagle. The elder sister saw that her younger sister was being carried. So, she chased the eagle to get her sister back. But she couldn't follow it. She didn't give up and kept following the eagle. Then, she arrived in the jungle. She asked the trees which were growing along the trail if they had seen her sister. The trees said that they didn't see her sister. Then, she saw a tree with lots of fruits somewhere in the forest. She asked, "Have you seen my sister being carried away by the eagle?" The tree said, "I am sorry. I have many fruits that make me bend, so I can't look up at the sky. I didn't see the eagle and your sister." The tree asked the girl for help, "Can you help me, please? Can you pick some of my fruits?" The girl was busy searching for her sister, but she helped the tree. The tree thanked her, "Thank you for helping me. I feel so light now." Then, she continued her way to find her sister. She reached the stream. The water was not flowing in that stream. Then, many animals that came to drink water from that stream were thirsty. They were about to die soon since they couldn't drink water. She was curious and looked around the stream. She thought, "Why isn't the water flowing? I might get thirsty." Then, she walked up to the upriver area. She saw that a giant rock was blocking the waterway. She moved that rock with all of her strength. Soon, the water was flowing along the stream. The animals drank the water and survived. They thanked her, "You saved us. Thank you so much." She asked them, "Did you see my sister being carried by the eagle while you were lying down here?" They said, "We are sorry. We were so thirsty and felt like we were dying. So, we weren't aware of your sister and the eagle." She kept walking and tried to find her sister. Then, she met a man somewhere in the forest. The man was trying hard to light the fire. He couldn't light the fire no matter how hard he tried. She asked him, "Grandpa, did you see an eagle flying?" He answered, "I was busy the whole day lighting the fire. I didn't see it." She felt pity for him, so she helped him light the fire. After that, she continued walking to find her sister. She arrived at one place where a big banyan tree was growing. She saw an old man tying her younger sister at the tree. He was going to offer her to the nats. She saw her sister and thought, "How can I save my sister?" At that moment, the old man went into the cave to get a spear. Then, she quickly ran toward her sister and freed her. And they ran away. When the old man came out of the cave, he saw no girl on the tree. He called his eagle, "Find the girl! She is running away. Maybe, her sister saved her. Go find them quickly!" The eagle chased after them. Transcription (La Ring) Ngai ya ngai bai hkai na maumwi gaw karum chye ai num sha na lam nga ai re.
