Description:Translation (Htoi San) I am telling a story about a lousy stepmother. A long time ago, a man married two women, and the first wife had a child. One day, the two wives went fishing. While they were fishing, the first wife got much fish and the second wife did not catch any fish. When it was time to go home, the younger wife took the older wife's fish by force. She carried the first wife's fish and went back. Furthermore, she pushed the older wife into the lake. When the second wife got home, the first wife's child cried as the mother did not come home. "Mommy! Mommy!" The child cried out, calling her mother. She did not eat the fish that her mother had caught. She heard people saying they would scoop out fish from the lake. So she got up early, cooked rice, then went to the lake. "Mommy! Mommy!" She called out to her mother with all her voice in every pond. When she called, "Hey Mom," at the same time, a bubbling sound was coming from the water. She called again, and the bubbling sound came at the same time. "Mom, I brought some rice for you to eat. People said that they are going to catch fish today." When she said this, the bubbling sound came out again. Her mother became a tortoise, and she moved to another pond when people scooped out this pond. "When people clear this pond, you go in the other pond," said the child to her mother, tortoise. However, people scooped out all of the lakes. They also caught the tortoise. The tortoise was the first wife. After she died, she became a tortoise. At night, the village people brought and shared the tortoise with everyone, but the second wife mixed it up. After that, she asked the child to raise a fire. "Make the fire stronger," said the stepmother. The child raised the fire a bit, and the tortoise said, "It's hot! It's hot. My child, this is your mother." "Don't raise it," said the mother tortoise. The child cried and cried and said, "It is my mother." Therefore she did not make the fire high, but the stepmother came and beat her because she did not raise the fire. Her mother said, "It's hot. It's hot! My child, this is your mother," when she made the fire stronger. The mother tortoise left a message to her child, "My child. After eating this tortoise meat, take the bones and bury them at the root of the jackfruit tree in our old house where we used to stay." "Bury them there and come and ask whenever you need anything." After the mother tortoise said to come to her when her child needed anything, there was an event for choosing the king's wife. However, the stepmother asked the child to do some chores at home. The wicked mother mixed up rice grain with husks and beans. The stepmother and her daughter put on makeup and went to the event. The stepmother's daughter also grew up as a lady. They went to the king's bride-choosing ceremony to be chosen. The stepmother and her daughter made them pretty and headed to the king's wife picking event. The first wife's daughter's friends called her. "Let's go to the king's bride choosing party!" However, she denied it, saying, "I have to clear this first." "Let's go! Let's go! We will wait for you." Then pheasant birds helped her to pick all the paddy grain with husks. The girl told her mother, "Mom! The pheasant birds are calling me to go to the queen's picking party. The king is looking for his wife, and I am going there." When she talked about that, the small silver ornament clothes and silver dresses came down from the jackfruit tree. The girl wore those and went to the event. She stood at the last row near the doorway of the event. The king chose one by one, and although the second wife's daughter was so pretty, she was not selected. The king kept on selecting his wife. He chose the girl standing in the last place. The king selected the orphan girl. The daughter of the first wife was chosen. Then she stayed in the palace. She married a rich man and became a king's wife. One day, she returned to her home. When she went back to her relatives, the stepmother was so cunning. The second mother pretended to drop the needle and other things, "The child drops things down the house," and she asked the queen to go and pick them up. Her step-sister asked for her sarong, and she gave it to her sister. Her step-sister asked again for her necklace, and she gave it too. Then they pretended to drop things off and asked her to pick them up. The stepmother boiled the water and ordered her to get the necklace they intentionally dropped from downstairs. After that, they dropped the bracelet and asked her to get it. At that time, the stepmother poured her hot water from above. The girl died due to this happening. When she died, her step-sister went to the king. The second wife's daughter went to the king. The step-sister pretended to be her orphan sister and stayed in the palace. Then she weaved her orphan sister's loom. While she was weaving, a chick knew that she was the daughter of the second wife. The chick appeared to be conspicuous about the fake queen. It ran in front of her to and fro and said, "It will be known. It will be known." Therefore the fake queen used the weaving shuttle. She bit the chick with the weaving shuttle to death. After the chick died, she threw it in the garden. She left the chick on a farm. It appeared again in the garden. The chick came out as a silk plant. The silk plant came out in the garden. Every day, someone cooked hot rice deliciously in the kitchen. The king was amazed, "Who cooked these foods? Who made all these dishes?" The food was cooked daily, so the king ordered his bodyguards to guard all the doors. He thought, "I will wait and see who is cooking." They peeped into the kitchen while they were guarding the doors. The king saw the orphan girl was cooking. So he straight away hugged her and blocked her way. Then she became a human again. She was the king's first wife, and the king said, "Now, you are my real wife." "The weaving girl is another one, but she is also my wife." "Alright, you two compete, and let's see who my wife is." After that, the king gave knives to both wives and asked them to fight each other. The first queen won the race. So the king and his first wife could stay together again. The first wife's daughter was so mature and humble in the story. The daughter of the stepmother was so wicked. The step-sister bullied the orphan girl, and the stepmother killed the first wife. They gave the hands of the girl to her father. After they killed the orphan girl, they made her salted and pressed fish paste with her flesh. The stepmother told her father, "Your daughter does not send any presents although she is a queen." "Now my daughter becomes a queen and sends us fish paste. Let's try. Let's eat." The wicked wife gave her husband the girl's fingers and toes to eat. This story was about an evil stepmother. The stepmother pushed and killed the first wife into the lake. She poured the hot water onto the first wife's daughter and assassinated her. She did the double evil and made her daughter become a queen. However, her own daughter died due to her wicked mind. Here is the end of the story.
