Description:Translation (Rita Seng Mai) The story I am going to tell is about a raven. Once upon a time, there was a flock of ravens in a forest. There was one greedy raven in that group. One day, there was a dead elephant floating in the river. Then that flock of ravens went there to eat that elephant. They pecked at the dead elephant. While they were picking at it, the water had risen up since it was the rainy season. But the greedy raven and his friends kept eating the dead elephant and went along the river. They kept pecking it although the elephant was floating and moving along the river. While they were going along the river, some ravens said, "We reach far away. And it's going to rain, and the water level will rise up. This elephant is moving. We shouldn't stay here anymore." Then some ravens flew back to their place. Only the greedy raven left there. He kept eating without taking a look at the situation. He went along with the dead elephant no matter how much the water level increased. They two were floating along the river and reached really far. Then, he reached at the sea while he was eating that elephant. That river went into the sea. The elephant was rotten since it got wet, and got the sunlight. It was a few days since it died. And the ravens ate almost all of the elephant's flesh. There was just a little amount of elephant body left. Then the greedy raven thought to itself, "Grrrrr, there is just a little amount left. There is almost none. And where am I?" And he looked around. He knew that he was in the middle of the sea. When he noticed that, there were only bones of elephant left. There was almost none of the flesh. The he was sinking slowly. He thought to itself again, "All of my friends already flew back to their place. Now, I am alone since I was greedy on eating this elephant. Wherever I look, it's water. How should I fly back to my place?" Then he tried to fly from there. But he couldn't see a place to take a short rest. He kept flying and flying. On the other hand, the dead elephant was sinking into the sea since there were only bones left. That greedy raven couldn't fly anymore. Finally, it fell into the sea and died. So, we shouldn't be too greedy. We should not look at only our profits. We have to take a look at others and take care of each other. We shouldn't act like we care only of ourselves and have no consideration for others. We should stay alert too. Whatever we do, we should take a look at the situation. We should learn a lesson by looking at this greedy raven. The greedy raven wasn't aware that why his friends were flying back. He kept eating the elephant. He just focused on eating it. That's why that raven died at last. Same like that, we shouldn't have greed. When we work for a living, we shouldn't focus only one thing. We shouldn't have the mind, 'I will do this until I get this.' We have to take care of others, so that we can gain wealth and health. This story wants to point out this fact.
