Description:Translation (Rita Seng Mai) The event I will tell you is about our Kachin people shouldn't build the house and the kitchen next to each other. Once upon a time, there was a devine teller in a village. He had six daughters. There were eight family members in their family. When he tried to seek the future, he found out that Kachin people shouldn't attach the house and the kitchen. But he didn't believe it. So, he built the house and the kitchen closely. Because of that, his family members were dying one after one. Then, he had a deep thought about it. A kitchen is a room where we keep rice and vegetables. A bedroom is a room where we sleep. In this family, there were many girls. Then, they used many sanitary napkins and were dirty. We should keep a kitchen clean because we keep every food we eat there. When the man built his house attached to the kitchen, the rice didn't like that. The fortune-teller also told him not to build in that way. But he didn't listen and did what he liked. Then, his daughters died one after one. Other tribes can build their houses by attaching a kitchen, but not Kachin people. Kachin people can't build that kind of house. If we build like that, many bad things can happen to us. The man remarried and told his newborn children about it. His children told their children about it too. They spread the words to generations by generations. I want everyone to know that Kachin people should never build a house like that.
