Description:Translation (Rita Seng Mai) I will tell one of the stories that the Kachin people always told. This is about a venomous caterpillar. Tsing Tsam is a kind of caterpillar. It has many venomous setae. Let me tell you how it has those venomous setae. It is really slow at moving. There are venomous insects such as bees and wasps. Among those venomous insects, the caterpillar is the slowest. It was the place where the poison was divided among the animals. The caterpillar arrived there first. However, it took only a small amount of poison. On its way back home, it met a wasp. The wasp was late getting there, so it asked for help. It told the caterpillar, "You have already got some poison. I am late. Will there be any poison left?" The caterpillar said, "There might still be some. There was a lot left when I came back." In fact, the wasp saw a dead worm on its way. It was busy eating it, so it was late. The wasp said, "You go there again and get another poison. Give it to me." The caterpillar took the most poisonous poison. The wasp was greedy over eating the dead worm, so it was late. It didn't want to go there to get some poison. Then, the caterpillar gave its poison to the wasp. And it went to the place where the poison was given again. But there was no poison left. It thought, "What should I do now? I should have some poison too." Then, it rolled its whole body on the banana leaves where the poison was put. It got poison all over its body. Then, the setae on the caterpillar were venomous. This is the end of the story about the caterpillar. Transcription (La Ring) Ya na gaw ndai Jinghpaw ni hkai mat wa ai tsing tsam a balen galwi ngu ai rai nga.
