Description:Translation (Rita Seng Mai) This story wants to point out that we shouldn't do anything without thinking much even though other people are doing it so. In Burmese, we usually say 'Doing something because other people are doing that." If we do like that, we will have only failure. So, I would like to tell you one story which is related with that. Once upon a time, there was a man who planted vegetables such as pumpkin, cucumber and seasame seeds in his field. But many big monkeys came to his field and ate all of his vegetables. He wanted to know that where all those monkeys came from. So, he pretended to be dead. He pretended like that and lay on the ground. Then, that troop of monkeys carried him. They went across the deep waterfall and woods. In the past, human and animals could verbally communicate each other. When the monkeys had to go across high places, they usually said, "Be careful! Be careful! We might drop him." He was so scared and didn't make any sound. The monkeys were saying each other, "Let's take him to our place!" After some time, they arrived at the cave where the monkeys lived. There were lots of precious things like gold in that place. The monkeys didn't do anything to him and just took him into the cave. And they prepared a meal for him. They let him sit there. He thought it was the right time and shouted loudly. And he drove all the monkeys away. Then, he took many gold and ran away from that cave. He went back home. One of his neighbours asked him, "How did you get all of those valuable things like gold and elephant's tusk?" He said, "I pretended like I was dead in the field where I grew pumpkins and cucumbers. Then, the monkeys took me to their place. While they were offering me to Nat, I shouted. So, they all ran away. And I took some gold." Then, that neighbour thought to do the same as him. The next day, that neighbour also planted some pumpkins and cucumbers in his field. The monkeys came and took him to their place. The same as before, the monkeys said, "Be careful! We might drop him." When the monkeys said like that, he replied to them. He said, "Yes. Be careful!" Then, the monkeys got scared and dropped him. And they all ran away. So, he didn't get any gold or money. He got only scratches and bruises. The lesson of this story is that we should do thing after we have observed carefully. So that, we could get success in our work.
