Description:Translation (Htoi Awng) The title of the story is "The harmonious family and inharmonious family." Long time ago, there were two families. They were hunters and very poor. They needed to hunt today to get the food for tomorrow. They normally used to do that. One day, one person from the harmonious family went to the jungle to set a trap. A tiger was trapped in his trap. So, he tried to shoot the tiger. Surprisingly, the tiger could speak. It said, "Please! Don't shoot me! Show mercy on me. I will payback you if you release me. Please, have mercy on me!" The man got surprised that a tiger could speak. Then, he released the tiger. He felt pity for the tiger and released it. And he went back home. His wife asked, "Why didn't you bring anything home? Did you not get anything this evening?" He answered, "I caught a tiger in my trap, but the tiger could talk! It asked me to release it. So, I freed it. It told me that it would payback me." (Narrator: Oh! Sorry I made a mistake.) When he released the tiger, it said, "Leave a basket in front on your house." When he arrived home, he told his wife, "A tiger told me like that. It said to leave a basket in front of our house." His wife said, "Ok! Let's do as it told." Then she left a basket in front of their house at night. The next morning, they found that there were full of gold in the basket. They wondered when they saw the golds. They got miracle blessing. They got rich. The villagers were aslo surprised. They were wondered, "How do they get rich just in short time without doing any work." The hunter from the inharmonious family asked him, "My friend! How did you get rich?" The rich hunter answered honestly. Then, the poor hunter also tried to do just the same like the rich one. He also caught the tiger. The tiger begged him not to kill it. And it said, "I will pay you back." He released it to get the gold like the rich hunter. He did it not because he felt pity for the tiger. The tiger said to him, "Put a basket in front of your house." He said, "Okay." When he reached home, his wife asked him, "Didn't you get anything? What had happened?" He answered, "I caught a tiger, but I released it. Because the tiger told me that it would pay me back. It told me to put a basket in front of the house." His wife angrily said, "You are just a fool. How a tiger can pay you back? That tiger will pounce on you. There is no way that you will get gold! Even though you get, you will get only its faeces! What do we eat now? We have nothing!" His children blamed him too. But he put a basket in front of the house, although he felt sad. The next morning, there was really full of faeces in the basket. What this story wants to point out is that we have to be harmonious and united. We need to respect each other what fathers who lead the family told. We should not blame each other all the time. If there are some problems, we should solve them together. Transcription (Lu Awng) Maumwi gabaw gaw myithkrum ai dinghku hte myit nhkrum ai dinghku nga re.
