Description:Translation (Rita Seng Mai) This is about the orphan siblings' dream. Two orphan siblings lived in a village. One night, a younger brother dreamt. So, he told his elder brother, "I had a dream last night." He said, "I had a dream of a bird called Ja Labyak U Seng Ka." His brother asked him, "What kind of bird is that?" He explained, "When it flaps its right wing, pleasant music is coming out. When it flaps its left wing, a lot of valuable jades are dropping. I had a dream of that kind of bird." The king overheard their conversations. Then, the king called both of them and asked them, "You two have that kind of bird, don't you?" They said politely, "We don't have it, my lord. We were just talking about our dream." But the kind didn't believe them and threatened, "If you don't give it to me, I will kill you." The orphan siblings were afraid and requested, "Don't kill us, please. There will be that kind of bird in real life because we have even dreamt about it. We will definitely find it. Just give us some time to find it." The king agreed with them and gave them some months to find the bird. Then, the brothers collected all kinds of weapons, such as arrows and bows. They brought some packs of rice and went into the jungle. The elder brother shot every bird he saw. But the younger brother decided he would not shoot any birds until he saw Ja Labyek U Seng Ka (a bird). Since the elder brother shot every bird he saw, he didn't have any arrows left. On their way, they met a group of blacksmiths. Then, the elder brother said, "I won't go find that bird. But the king will kill me if I go back. So, I will just stay here." The younger brother continued his journey to find the bird. After searching it for a while, he saw the kind of bird that appeared in his dream on a high tree. The bird was little. He thought, "It is a kind of bird I saw in my dream. I will catch it without any injuries." At that time, he saw a snake crawled up the tree to eat the bird. He was shocked and didn't know what to do. He vacillated between killing the snake and catching the bird. If he decided to kill the snake, the bird would notice them and run away. Finally, he decided, "The snake is enemy of the bird and me as well. It's okay although the bird flies away. I will kill the enemy first." Then, he shot the snake with his arrow. It hit right in the snake's head. The snake was so huge that even seven streams were filled with its body. In the past, humans and birds could communicate with each other. The little bird was thankful to him and said, "My friend, you save our lives. When our mom and dad come back, we will definitely pay our gratitude to you. Don't go back to your place yet." So, he was waiting for the bird's parents. When its parents got back to their nest, the little bird said, "Mom and Dad, we were almost being eaten by a huge snake. A human has saved us." They asked, "Where is he?" It said, "Under the tree." They called him, "Come up." But he was afraid because he had to walk on the dead snake and the tree was really high too. Then, the father bird flew down towards him and let him sit on its wings. When they arrived on the tree, the bird parents said, "We are so thankful to you that you have saved our children's lives. How can we pay our gratitude to you?" He said, "I had a dream of a bird. When it flaps its right wing, good music is coming out. When it flaps its left wing, many valuable jades and rubies are coming out. The king knew about my dream. I told the king that there was no bird like that. But he threatened me that he would kill me if I couldn't find it for him." The birds said, "We can give you. Ride on me." And they took him to a land where deities lived. The bird explained to him, "That kind of bird only exists in the land where deities live." After some time, they reached a beautiful mansion. The bird parents said, "You stay in this room. Don't come out no matter who calls you. Come out only when we call you." Then, they went somewhere. At that time, the boy heard pleasant music that was the same as in his dream. He was curious, so he opened the door to look. Then, he fainted and died right there. Meanwhile, the bird parents came back with Ja Labyek U Seng Ka (a bird from deity land). They witnessed the boy had died. They thought, "He has saved our children's lives. We have to save him no matter what." They went back to the deity land and took herbs that could make people immortal. They fed it to him. He was back to life. He got the bird too. Then, he said goodbye to the bird family and went to his elder brother. He told his brother, "Let's go to the king and give this bird." But his elder brother said, "You have found the bird. But I couldn't help you find it, so I won't go. The king will kill me as well." Then, he said, "Let's go together. We will say we have found this bird together. Let's give it to the king." Then, they went back to the palace and said, "My lord, we have found the bird." The king was happy and asked, "Where is it?" They answered, "We can't show you now. We will show you tomorrow morning when the sun is shining brightly." The bird listened to only the boy. The next morning, the bird rested on a veranda. The boy said, "The bird, flap your right wing." When it flapped its right wing, pleasant music was spreading throughout the whole country. People felt happy when they heard the music. The boy said, "Enough! Now, flap your left wing." Then, the bird flapped its left wing. Many treasures were falling down onto the ground. The king was pleased and announced, "The boy will get married to my daughter! He will inherit the crown." And the king asked the elder brother, "What do you want?" The elder brother didn't know what to say and just touched his younger brother's head. Then, the king thought, "He might want the treasures as much as his hair." The king gave lots of treasures. The two brothers became rich. So, our elders often said to us, "If you have a dream, try hard to come true. You will gain success." Transcription (La Ring) Ndai mung jahkrai ma shan nau a yup mang hkai ai lam re.
