Description:Translation (by Mike Tu Awng) Now, one of the titles is about Nang Yut and Ninghpre. Ninghpre was very aggressive, violent, direspectful, abusive, and cruel. Nang Yut is the name given to the youngest girl among girls. Long time ago in a village, there was a rich man. The rich man was the wealthiest man in the village and he lived like a lord as well. Then, he got married to Nang Yut. After mirriage, they lived happily. In the olden time, it was permissible to get married to two to three women. Then, the lord of the other village gave his daughter in marriage to that rich man. The rich man was unable to refuse the offer. The girl was with bulge forehead and the girl had uneven face with rough skin and she was not very beautiful. The rich man had to marry her now even though she was not beautiful as she was given to her by others. The girl was not a good girl. Nang Yut had a righterous and compassionate mind. And, Nany Yut was the first wife but the girl was the second wife. At any situation, Nan Yut was the lady of the house. They lived on like that. But the girl wanted to take the place of Nang Yut. Moreover, she started thinking about finding ways to kill Nang Yut. One day, Nang Yut was taking a bath and combing her hair. She was combing her hair. Long ago in our houses from the village, we had split bamboo floor that had holes. Nang Yut was combing her hair and sitting in the house when Ning Hpre came in. Nang Yut became elder sister to Ning Hpre after mirrage. Nang Hpre said, "Let me comb your hair with this golden comb." But Nang Yut did not like the idea, saying, "Never mind, I will do it myself." However, Nang Hpre insisted, "Let me do it." Then finally, Whe Nang Yut let her comb her hair, Nang Hpre pretended as if she accidently dropped the comb to the ground throgh a hole. And she said, "My sister, I accidently drop your golden comb to the ground. To go and pick it up, I cannot go down there as the space between the ground and the floor is very narrow. I cannot bend down to pick it up because my back aches." Even though Nang Yut said, "I still have other comb, I will not pick it up", she kept on insisting her to pick it up. Finally, Nang Yut gave in to her request. When Nang Yut went down to pick up the comb, Nang Hpre threw her with boiling water which she had boiled beforehand. Then, Nang Yut was dead. After her death, she was buried and she became a wood pigeon. When she turned to a wood pigeon, she came back to her husband's house because she had a daughter. She stayed on the tree branches near the house and called. Nang Hpre was weaving unfinished weaving thread left by Nang Yut. How do wood pegions make sound in Japan? In our country they make sound like, "dut du du." A wood pegieon makes sound like, "dut du du" meaning to say, "That the thread I started, now you are weaving it," When making a pattern in weaving too, a wood pigeon says, "That too is what I have taught you." When it made sound like that, Nang Hpre heard it. Then, she thought the wood pigeon was Nang Yut and she pretended to be sick. She stayed in bed with sickness and she did not eat. The husband asked her what happened, what the matter was. And she planned..... She refused to eat, she refused to drink water. Then, when her husband asked what she wanted to eat, she said that she wanted to eat meat from a wood pigeon. When his wife said that she wanted to eat wood pigeion meat, the husband summoned hunters who knew how to shoot bow and shot down that wood pigeon. When they killed the pigeon, the daughter knew it was her mother. Nang Hpre told them to cook it for her. When they cooked it, she ate all meat and she gave only soup to the Nang Yut's daughter. But the daughter knew it was her mother's meat. That's why she poured it through bamboo hole on the floor. When the pigeon was killed, this was a belief in the olden time. She turned from wood pigeon to a tortoise and lived in a pond. That tortoise lived in the village pond and she communicated her daughter in dreams saying, "I, your Mom, am living in the pond as a tortoise. You can visit me here." The daugher sneaked out of the house in the evening and went to the pond. She threw some rice to the tortoise and what a tortoise ate. Every evening she did like this and she was very happy. The one who was very sad and cried very much now turned to a happy person. Nang Hpre knew it and started to think again. To know what made her happy all of a sudden, Nang Hpre asked her servants to spy on her. When they spied, they saw that Nang Yut was calling to the tortoise, "Mom Mom", and she threw some rice to it. When Nang Hpre knew it, she croke.................... Gyam jang gaw she pretended to be sick again. She did not eat, She did not drink water. The husband said, "Recently, my wife Nang Yut died, I would be a widowerer if Nang Hpre also dies." The wife cannot die this time so given the situation, he asked his servants to hunt for that tortoise. She said that she could be cured if she could eat meat from that tortoise and told them where they could find tortoise in the pond, saying, "Go and catch that tortoise from the pond." They knew where the tortoise lived because they had been watching the daughter feeding that tortoise. They knew that the tortoise lived at a corner in the south part of the pond. When they were asked to catch, the daughter went there earlier and warned her, saying, "They are going to catch you. Move to the other side of the pond." The next day was the same. They could never catch the tortoise because the daughter gave early warning to her mother. So, they could not catch it. Then, the mother tortoise was getting tired moving around the pond, and the tortoise said, "My daughter, I am getting tired of being a tortoise. So let them catch me." So, the tortoise stayed where they were going to look for her. She did not run anywhere. And they caught the tortoise. When they got it, they cooked it and ate it. Just like before, they did not give meat to Nang Yut's daugher but just soup. The daughter poured all the soup. She was very sad and cried a lot. The other one was very pleased because she can rule the whole house. Then, not very far from that village, there were a widow and a child. It was not sure if those two people were a widow and her son, or a grandmother and a grandson. It could be also a mother and a son. They both went to their slash farm leaving their house. When they returned, they found that there was a burning fire, their meal was cooked, the floor was swept, water was fetched. Everthing was so clean so they thought their relatives could arrived when they were at the farm. But, when they looked for them, they could not find anyone. It happened like that every day. Whenever they got back from the slash farm, they found that fire was made, the floor was swept, meal was cooked. Then, one day, the son pretended to go to the farm, he returned back home and hid himself at the corner of the house. While he was hiding, a pumkin that they kept at corner of the door cracked into two and a girl came out from it. A very beautiful girl came out from the pumkin and cooked meal for them. Then, the boy did not do anything to the girl, but he went very quickly and bravely to the pumkin and chopped it to pieces. When he did that, the girl had no way to return. When she could not get into the pumpkin, she became human being again. Then, the boy said, "You cook for us, you clean our house, Who are you?" And she replied, "I am the wife of the rich chief of the village not very far from you village. She told them that her name was Nang Yut. When she said that they went to call that person and asked, "Is this your wife?" He replied, "She died a few days ago but now she is alive here and I am surprised." Anyhow, he brought her home with him. When he brought her home, Ning Hpre was shocked seeing her. The rich man said, "You two fight a lot in the past so one of you cannot stay here." "So, you two fight each other to death. The one who is alive, I will make her my wife." Then, Ning Hpre wanted to kill. She was ready to fight, to chop up each other. She kept saying that. But Nang Yut said,"We are sisters, you are my younger sister, we can live together in the same house." Even though she said that Nang Hpre kept pusing to fight. The husband did not know what to do. Then, the husband gave iron sword to Nang Yut. And he gave Nang Hpre a bronze sword and it was very heavy. Nang Yut did not want to fight. But, when swords were given to each of them, Nang Hpre was scared or she was even shocked. She got so shocked that no one need to kill her but she just died out of shock. After that, Nang Yut and the rich man lived happily and they got four daughters. This is a story. Even though there are many stories about Nang Yut, this is the end of the story.
