Coverage:Indonesia

Description:Story about how the Kalamang ancestors found water at Sui. Story belonging to the families of Gosek and Yorkuran. Told after the linguist had asked for "stories from the past". Locations: Sui, Pinggor, Mauka Karimun. Using blades of the paddles the wrong way (parallel to the boat) and the right way (perpendicular) is reminiscent of De domme voorouders [The stupid ancestors], a story from Halmahera, in Lilipaly - de Voogt's 'Een boom vol schatten' [A tree full of treasures], 1993 (p.62).
