It grows in open places and in fallows where the sun does not shine so much, so that there is dew all the time. Sasagrass (pr¬yàak) often grows around it. The soil where it grows is good for growing any kind of plant, in particular rice. The ber¬ries are red and taste very good. People pick and eat them; birds and squirrels eat them, too. The thorny stems and leaves are used for driving away spirits (>háa). A ring (prnùuc) is made of the stems, and the sick person is led through it in order to cure him (>púuc).
