Khmu Name: twé
Description: A 30–40 m tall and quite big tree. It may grow any-where on the mountains. People collect the young leaves (lá ~) to make stew, and the flowers (ràaŋ cáak) to make salad. The taste is very bitter, but it is good for the body; people feel stronger after they have eaten it. The fruit (plé hntá mɛ̀ɛw) is edible and is sometimes eaten in times of starvation, when there is no rice left. The flower is stewed with dried squirrel meat (tàŋ ràaŋ cáak káp prɔ́ɔk ràas) like this: Fill a cooking pot with cold water and heat it. Add Markhamia flowers torn into small pieces, pieces of dried squirrel meat, dried chillies, salt and crushed rice. Let it boil for 15–20 minutes, stirring it all the time.
