Description: A 4–5 m tall, wild tree whose leaves are silvery and look like fingers. The fruit is white and has a sour and salty, sticky covering (màaŋ ~). It grows in the forest high up on the mountains, but not among the big and tall trees. During the cold season people collect the fruits in the forest and when they come home they heat some dried chillies, pound with salt and ginger root, mix with the fruits, and eat it; it is very sour. When a buffalo calf has many tapeworms (tɨ́ɨk) in its stomach, the owner goes to the forest to collect Chinese sumac fruits, soaks them in water and gives the sour water to the calf to drink. Then all the tapeworms die and come out. In the cold season, child¬ren do not like to bathe. Then they use the sticky coating of this fruit to rub off the dirt on their feet to prevent them from getting athlete’s foot (prtès).
