Description:Scientific Name: Gleichenia linearis Common Name: staghorn fern Arkivcentrum Syd ID: 1975170
Khmu Name: twá tŋkə̀ər 'bird-trap fern'
Description: A fern which grows on the mountain tops. The stems are as hard as bamboo. People use them for making bird-snares (tŋkə̀ər). They are also used as reeds for drinking wine (pùuc). An extract of the leaves is used for washing people who have been poisoned by the Semecarpus (ptkóot) tree. People sow ‘hairy rice’ (ŋɔ́ ktúuy) in areas where this fern grows, but if there is too much of it, the roots make the soil sour and hard, so that it is im¬possible to grow rice or any other plants.
