Description: A tree which is grown around the village or in the gar¬dens. It can be propagated by air-layering (kɔ̀ɔp), and almost every family have one. It belongs to the family and no one is allowed to climb and pick the fruits of a tamarind tree that belongs to another family. Some fruits are sweet and others are sour. During the sowing period (May to June) the new leaves start to sprout and people collect and make salad from them. When the fruits are ripe, they are collected and eaten, and the re¬maining ones are kept for later use. The small branches are good for making handles for knives and weeding-knives (wʌ̀ʌr). The bark is pounded and used for curing wounds (òh).
