Description: A wild vine which grows in the forest, in fields and in young fallows. It has 25–30 cm long internodes and has itchy hairs on the stem. It does not climb trees but grows on the ground. The women cut the vines inter¬node by internode, scrape off the green bark and use the white fibres inside it for making bags (hryà) and fishing-nets (rèp). In former times people made fishing-lines from it. When a baby is born (kə́ət), the kudzu vine is used for making a string for tying the baby’s umbilical cord before it is cut off with a piece of pɔ̀ɔc bamboo.
