Description:Scientific Name: Acacia pennata Common Name: Unspecified Arkivcentrum Syd ID: 1995730
Khmu Name: crá
Description: A 15–20 m long, wild, climbing vine with thin leaves and sharp thorns on the stems. It grows in the forest where people never make fields. In April to July, when the rains have started, there are no cultivated vegetables in the fields, and people collect young acacia leaves. Men and young boys carry bags and climb the trees where they grow to pick the young leaves. When they have filled the bags they climb down and share with the others. When they come home they prepare stew or soup, or fry the leaves with eggs. The vine smells bad, but the stew or soup is tasty. Acacia leaf soup (sə́ŋ kɔ̀ɔŋ ~): Cut young acacia leaves, young Erythropalum (krlìiŋ) leaves and young leaves from inside a banana stem into small pieces. Fill a cook¬ing pot with cold water, boil the water, and add salt, green chillies, and the vegetables. Let it boil for half an hour and stir often, otherwise it will not taste good. Take it away from the fireplace and eat with rice. Aca¬cia leaf stew (sə́ŋ tàŋ ~) is made in the same way as the soup, except that crushed rice and dried meat are boiled with the other ingredients.
Note: "Id" refers to the original ID of the dried plant specimen
