Description: The largest kind of gourd. The vine climbs a tree stump. It has bitter young leaves, but the fruits are good for making stew. People sow them for making water con¬tainers from the hard gourds. They must be sown near a tree stump because they have tendrils; otherwise they will twine around the rice plants and break them. When the fruits are hard enough, they are dried and used as water containers. According to Kammu myth, the first people on earth came out from this gourd.
