English abstract: This is a translation into French of two Soviet collections of Siberian Yupik Eskimo tales and fables, Sergeeva ( 1968 ), and Rubtsova (19SS). preceded by a preface by jean Malaurie. Folklorists will want to ·compare the tales with equivalents from elsewhere in the Eskimo world, from the Chukchi, Koryak, and Kamchadal, and from the American Northwest coast. Linguists who do not know Russian are enabled to compare the French translation (of Rubtsova's literal Russian) with her Eskimo original.
