| Goal of this project is to get a clear view of the command of Sarnami and/or Sranan of primary school children of Suriname origin and to study their command of Dutch. | ||
| Dorian de Haan talks with 2 boys, Rasoel and Shailes, about what they do when they come home from school, school (what they find difficult/not difficult), the languages they speak and traveling. | ||
| Dorian de Haan is the coordinator/collector of this project. She is of Dutch origin. She works at the University of Utrecht, The Netherlands, at the Developmental Psychology department. | ||
| Rasoel is of Sarnami Hindustani origin. He was born in Suriname and moved in 1980 with his family to the Netherlands. He was placed in the 4th form of primary school when he arrived in the Netherlands. At home he speaks Sarnami with his mother and older brother. His mother's command of Dutch is not so good. Because Rasoel's sister is married to a Dutch man they also speak Dutch at home. At school he speaks Dutch. He takes Urdu and Arabic courses. He has 13 siblings, of which 5 (including him) still live with their mother. Same boy as in 4E, 4F, 4G, 20D, 20E & 40C. | ||
| Shailes is of Sarnami Hindustani origin. He is born in Suriname and is currently living in the Netherlands. At home they speak Sarnami, and sometimes Dutch. He took Hindi language classes, but due to his homework for school he stopped. He finds it more important to speak Hindi then Sarnami, because more people speak Hindi. He is in the last form of primary school. Same boy as in 22K, 22L, 22M & 22P. | ||
