Description:ENGLISH: Session that presents Trumai ceremonial masks. The illustrations used as the basis for this session are from the book of Karl von den Steinen, 1940 ("Entre os Aborígenes do Brasil Central". Separata da Revista do Arquivo Municipal, vols. XXXIV a LVIII, Departamento de Cultura, São Paulo) and Günther Hartmann, 1986 ("Xingu: Unter Indianern in Zentral-Brasilien". Dietrich Reimer Verlag. Berlin). We added comments to each illustration, explaining the details of the masks. The purpose of this session is to be just a material for consultation about the masks that the Trumai people used to produce in the past. ----- PORTUGUÊS: Sessão que apresenta máscaras cerimoniais Trumai. Adicionamos comentários a cada ilustração, explicando os detalhes das mácaras. O objetivo desta sessão é apenas de servir de material de consulta sobre máscaras que os Trumai produziam no passado.
The purpose of the project is to document Trumai, a genetically isolate language spoken in Brazil. The archive consists of a collection of texts in the language, plus other kinds of materials relative to the Trumai culture, such as photos, drawings, songs, educational materials, etc.

The comments are made in Portuguese and English. Some Trumai words are used as well (written in italics).
Speaker3 contributed with information about the masks.
Speaker3 is a native speaker of Trumai. She lives in the Terra Preta village, in the central area of the Xingu Reserve. Both her parents were Trumai. Speaker3 lived in the Kamayurá village for many years, when she was still married. Nowadays she is separated, living with her daughter and son. She is middle-aged.
Raquel is a Brazilian linguist. She has been working with the Trumai people since 1989. She has a Ph.D. in Linguistics from Rice University (Houston, Texas, U.S.A).
