Lacandon Cultural Heritage is a documentation of the language and culture of the northern Lacandon(Maya), who live in the rain forest in Chiapas, the south-eastern state of Mexico. They number approximately 350 men, women and children, who have retained much of their traditional culture and religion. The project serves as a preservative measure against loss of the traditional knowledge, stories, and verbal performances that are central to Lacandon culture. It also serves as an interactive resource tool for linguists and non-linguists to access data relevant to their areas of interest, such as folklore, ethnobotany, cultural anthropology, etc.
This file was generated from an IMDI 1.9 file and transformed to IMDI 3.0. The substructure of Genre is replaced by two elements named "Genre" and "SubGenre". The original content of Genre substructure was: Interactional = '', Discursive = '', Performance = ''. These values have been added as Keys to the Content information.
KyG shows us around the ceremonial cookhouse, beside his father's godhouse. He shows us the implements and demonstrates how they are used. There is no one else present during the recording. The collectors were interested in traditional artefacts and ceremonial activities, in addition to the recording of descriptive language.
Lacandon is the language used in this session.
KyG is the only participant in this session. The collectors are present and may be heard asking questions off camera.
KyG is one of CK's sons. His mother is KP. He was born and raised in Naha. He was recently divorced, has two children, RGP and Lej. He is currently married to a Tzeltal woman many years his senior. They still live in Naha.
The collector of this session data is also responsible for the collection of all of the data sessions and the whole project.
