Description: | Wédidmyinênyedê Meeting II. Mbii danêmbum (part 2). This discussion revolves around the sickness of Charlotte, wife of William Ndu, half brother of John Wéni and Mark Ngêm (their joint F remarried). Charlotte is D of Tadpuwó, Henry Mgéédi's B, and Z of the Anna married to Benny Mbulu. She has been sent back from Alotau, diagnosed with uncurable cancer. Such cancers are usually held to be of two sources: Nkaa counter-sorcery (implying Charlotte herself is a sorceror) or ghîmê péé (female minor witchcraft, potentially curable). Thus Charlotte herself is suspect. At the end the following conclusion was reached: Charlotte had brought the disease on herself by swearing at her husband in front of a yâpwo located right in the middle of the village by William Ndu's F (it's a sort of ancestor shrine, created only 1 generation ago on a chêêpî kââ by planting sacred ginger in it, which has to be avoided by menstruating women). Therefore she had to pay a high value ndapî (tîpîdî mdoo) fine to the yâpwo chóó (representing the village), who happens to be her husband William. Then the following night William will sit with the ndapî on the shrine and ask his dead father to stop inflicting the disease. Another ndap, yodonkîpwi ntoo, was paid by Charlotte to her MB Mundi in return for l:êê, herbal potion. | |
