| Description: | This project is a part of PhD dissertation fieldwork, supported by the Endangered Languages Documentation Programme (IGS00166). The dissertation itself will focus on evidentiality in the language, but the documentation aims to encompass as broad a set of linguistic and cultural practices as possible. Most interviews were carried out by native Kichwa researchers, and are therefore monolingual in Kichwa. The topics addressed cover the recent history of the Amazonian Kichwa, folktales, everyday life and ceremonies. | |
| The aim of this elicitation was to try and see what is going to happen with guesswork, which I found difficult to elicit in translation situations in el_18092014_01, el_21092014_01 and el_25092014_01. I downloaded a 3 cup game, or what it's called, from youtube, probably with a breach of copyright - the video's inital seuqence refers to a website www.glennmorphy.com, but nevermind. I cut out the tricks - 6 of them, and cut them so that Nilo and Jacobo would first watch the trick without finding out where the bean was, and only leter on would they see the entire thing. The discussion this triggered was not very lievely, perhaps because they never managed to guess right, and perhaps because the clips were very short. I need to segment the video and have a closer look, but I did not seem to here even one instance of the INFR marker at all - which sort of confirms the elicitations mentioned above, where it only surfaces in the lexicalised imacha.
