Description: This project is a part of PhD dissertation fieldwork, supported by the Endangered Languages Documentation Programme (IGS00166). The dissertation itself will focus on evidentiality in the language, but the documentation aims to encompass as broad a set of linguistic and cultural practices as possible. Most interviews were carried out by native Kichwa researchers, and are therefore monolingual in Kichwa. The topics addressed cover the recent history of the Amazonian Kichwa, folktales, everyday life and ceremonies.

This session was run within shooting the short film about Runa medicinal plants. We went to the forest with Carolina Grefa and her husband Arturo Rodriguez. They showed us three plants: - kurarina - used to cure snake bites (mixed with some sort of yuca root) - kilun kilun (not sure about the spelling) - the sap is used to put on wounds to heal them and stop the bleeding - uña de gato - cooked in water which is used to cure stommach ache We went out to the forest in the morning, but not too far, maybe 20-30 minutes walking in and about 20 back. We were filming the plants, and in some cases I put the wireless mic on Carolina, so you can hear her speak but not see her. Also present during the session were John White, ethnobotanist, and Pablo Zanon, filmmaker. The content of the recordings is as follows: in_05092014_01 flowers and leaves of kurarina tree, Maria, Nilo and John talking / microphone used: Sennheiser ew100 wireless in_05092014_02 harvesting and preparation of kilun kilun to dress a wound, Nilo and Maria talking / microphone used: Sennheiser ew100 wireless in_05092014_03 preparation of the kurarina remedy, Nilo and Maria talking / microphone used: Sennheiser ew100 wireless in_05092014_04 preparation of kilun kilun again, Nilo and Maria talking / microphone used: Sennheiser ew100 wireless in_05092014_05 first part of the interview about kurarina, the snake remedy / microphone used: Sennheisser ew100 wireless/Rode NTG2 shotgun in_05092014_06 second part of the interview about kurarina, the snake remedy / microphone used: Sennheisser ew100 wireless/Rode NTG2 shotgun in_05092014_07 interview about kilun kilun, the sap of which helps to heal wounds / microphone used: Sennheisser ew100 wireless/Rode NTG2 shotgun in_05092014_08 intreview about uña de gato / microphone used: Sennheisser ew100 wireless/Rode NTG2 shotgun The recording and sound monitoring was managed by Pablo, and took place in Carolina and Arturo's house. The footage is more cinematic then usual documentation would be, as the interviewer (Nilo) was sitting next to the camera, and the interviewee was lit with an additional LED pannel. Despite that, I think that the conversation was quite natural, and Carolina didn't seem intimidated by the intreview setting. I refer to the whole bundle as 'interview' but it also contains conversation and some and how-to-make texts (when Carolina explains the processes of preparing each plant in videos _05, _06, _07 and _08. John and Pablo can be heard talking as well - John was responsible for monitoring whether the interview included all the important information. The entire session was recorded on the Canon XA10 camera. The microphones used for each recording are given above The eaf files contain transcriptions and translations (Kichwa/Spanish) - files -01 to 04 were revised by the researcher and then revised again with the transcriber; the filed 05-08 were transcribed and translated by the Kichwa consultants, but were not checked by the researcher
