| This story, written by Plácido Hernández Pérez in the Nahuatl (Aztec) language of Mecayapan and Tatahuicapan, Veracruz, Mexico, tells about a young man who was required to perform various tasks before he could get married. It describes a number of customs that are no longer part of the Mecayapan and Tatahuicapan culture, such as the setting of tasks for the prospective groom, and the way in which he would bow before each invited guest. Some other customs are still observed, such as having the parents of the wedding couple shake each others' hands at the close of the ceremony to officially become co-parents-in-law. | ||
