Traditional marriage among the Fulbe often involves a long preparation: an inquiry by the future husband's family about the future daughter-in-law; consultation with fetish priests and Muslim holy men about the future wife: is she a lucky or an unlucky charm? is she capable of having children? It describes the engagement period and wedding, the experiences of widows and divorced women, and the financial cost of weddings. In this way, the author brings to light an essential aspect of African culture.
